Balkans Beyond Borders

Balkans Beyond Borders (BBB) is a cultural non-profit organisation based in Athens, Greece.

BBB aims at building tolerant, inclusive and democratic societies, with a special interest in the extended Balkan region. Driven by art, BBB's actions include a film festival, socio-cultural events, seminars, open discussions and collaborations with academics and professionals from the cultural, socio-political and art sector and film industry. BBB acts as a stage of cultural diplomacy and regional cooperation in the Balkans introducing innovative mechanisms of collaborations and Balkan culture. For our activities, we have been awarded In 2011 by the European Parliament with the Charlemagne Youth Prize for our innovative Festival, the youth mobility initiatives and its focus on building the European idea and in 2018 with the Civil Society Prize of the EESC - European Economic and Social Committee.   

Balkans Beyond Borders BBB is about creativity and open dialogue. It is about its growing community of artists, researchers, journalists and partners. It is about breaking per- sisting stereotypes about what is and what is not ‘Balkan’, surfacing difficult questions and providing an outlet for free expression and problem-solving. But BBB is also about directly supporting and empowering each individual, whether they are artists or BBB volunteers and Ambassadors to create, to make a living from art, to be inspired and to help the organisation grow and be present across countries. It’s about promoting films, breaking down barriers between sectors and creating networks of previously disconnected yet significant to our mission, stakeholders.
